3. FRENCH REGULAR -ER VERBS
There are 5 main kinds of French verbs: ER, IR,
RE, STEM-CHANGING, and IRREGULAR.
Once you've learned the rules of conjugation for
each of the first three kinds of verbs, you
should have no problem conjugating regular
verbs in each of those categories.
This lesson is on ER verbs, which are the first
most common category.
4. LES VERBES RÉGULIERS EN ER AU PRÉSENT
Most verbs in French end in er (chanter =to sing,
travailler = to work, nager = to swim) this form of
the verb is called the infinitive.
The stem or radical of the verb is the infinitive
minus the er (example: parler – er = parl).

To make a sentence negative, simply put the
word ne before the verb and the word pas after
the verb
Example: Je parle français (I speak French, or I am speaking French.)
Je ne parle pas français (I do not speak French. Or I am not speaking French)
8. ASKING QUESTIONS
Parles-tu? Or tu parles?
Chantes-tu? Or tu chantes?
Écoute-t-il? Or Il écoute?
